By the time my favourite Scottish band get to Lido this year they’ll have traversed the US and Canada, played a few shows with fellow legends The Clean, Superchunk and Belle Sebastian along the way, then invaded Japan and South Korea before battling their way up through the Balkans and over the Alps into Germany. Oh and that’s after they played half of Europe in the summer too. It’s more like a mission than a tour.
To say that they’ll be smokin on stage would be a slight understatement. These guys have been doing this for years and are still around because well, they’re Scottish and they’re tough and they also stopped listening to what people have been telling them, they were too busy making consistently great albums to be worried about being in step with the crowd. From shoegaze-influenced classic Bandwagonesque to Beach Boys/Big Star reverent Howdy to recent release Shadows it’s an impressive body of work to say the least. Now this amassed body of genius is coming to Lido. If you want to see what a band with backbone looks like then Teenage Fanclub is it.
